Hurricane Polo has reached Category 5 status off the coast of Mexico, according to reports. A research aircraft operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recorded wind speeds of 285 kilometers per hour while flying into the storm on Tuesday, September 22.
According to information reported by the BBC, wind gusts within the hurricane reached even higher speeds. Meteorologists have classified the storm as extremely dangerous due to its intensity.
