In a significant crackdown on human trafficking, three men were arrested and eight suspected victims were rescued in Central Trinidad on Sunday, July 6. The operation was executed by the National Special Operations Unit, with support from the Canine Branch and the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force Special Operations Unit. It took place between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in the Central Division, where officers conducted an intelligence-led exercise.

During the operation, law enforcement raided a residence in the St. Helena district. Inside, they discovered eight Spanish-speaking females, including two minors, who are believed to be victims of human trafficking. Authorities apprehended three local men at the scene, who now face potential charges of Human Trafficking as well as Possession of Firearm and Ammunition, following the seizure of a pistol and a magazine containing a round of ammunition.

The Immigration Enforcement Section and the Counter Trafficking Unit have been notified and are involved in the ongoing investigation, which aims to uncover further details surrounding the trafficking operation. The entire operation was coordinated by ACP Smith, with supervision from ASP (Ag.) St Clair and Sgt Baptiste. Investigations are still underway, highlighting the commitment of local authorities to combat human trafficking in the region.
