The Houthi armed group claimed to have conducted two military operations targeting Saudi Arabia on Saturday, September 19, 2026. According to Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree, the operations targeted strategic facilities in the capital city of Riyadh and an Aramco oil processing facility located in Yanbu.
The Saudi-led Arab Coalition reported that its air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi militia toward Riyadh on Saturday morning. Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki confirmed the interception, stating that the missile was neutralized during the early hours of the day.
Following the reported interception, media outlets noted sounds of explosions in the Riyadh province and the Al-Kharj region. Reports also indicated a fire at a fuel storage facility near the Riyadh airport. These events follow a separate incident on September 17, 2026, in the western province of Taif, where falling debris from a drone resulted in the death of one Yemeni national and injuries to another individual, as well as a Saudi citizen.
The Houthi group, which currently controls northern Yemen, continues to engage in a long-standing conflict with the Saudi-led coalition. The recent claims and military actions have drawn condemnation from the United Nations and the Gulf Cooperation Council, both of which have criticized attacks targeting civilian infrastructure.
