Herbalist Trevor Sayers Appeals for Pension After Years of Waiting

Herbalist Trevor Sayers Says He Is Still Waiting for NIS Pension After 24 Years of Contributions

Well-known Trinidadian herbalist Trevor Sayers has sparked widespread discussion after posting an emotional video claiming he has been unable to receive his National Insurance Scheme (NIS) pension despite contributing for more than two decades.

In the video, Sayers says he worked for 24 years and paid NIS contributions throughout more than 20 years in the herbal medicine industry. While he says he received a small payment at one point, he maintains that he has never received his NIS pension.

Sayers also claims he applied for the Old Age Pension but has yet to receive it. According to him, repeated visits to government offices have yielded no results.

He says he was directed from Sangre Grande to Port of Spain, then to Tunapuna, carrying all of the required documents each time, but the matter remains unresolved.

“I never get my pension,” Sayers says in the video, adding that successive governments have failed to resolve his issue. He names both the previous administration led by Dr. Keith Rowley and the current administration under Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, saying he is still waiting for assistance.

Sayers says he is the father of 36 children, including 10 who are still young, and told viewers that receiving his pension is important to help support his family. He argues that many elderly citizens face similar struggles and believes the system should do more to ensure pensioners receive the benefits they have earned.

The National Insurance Board has not publicly responded to Sayers’ specific allegations, and TG News has not independently verified the claims made in the video.
