HCSTSI Demands Special Traffic Police Unit for Autobhan Road to Curb Accidents

President of the Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders & Small Industry (HCSTSI) Muhammad Saleem Memon has termed the daily traffic accidents on Autobhan Road as worrisome, urging immediate and effective measures to prevent further loss of life and property. In a letter to Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Asif Haider Shah, the chamber has demanded the formation of a special traffic police unit for the road to ensure 24/7 patrolling and strict enforcement of traffic laws.

Memon highlighted that while the construction and expansion of Autobhan Road by the Sindh government is commendable, its true success hinges on making it completely safe. He noted that the chamber had submitted several safety suggestions last year, but most have not been implemented, leading to ongoing accidents and casualties.

The key demands include installation of safety grilles to prevent illegal crossings, construction of additional foot over bridges, deployment of modern traffic surveillance cameras, and formation of a dedicated traffic police unit. Memon also called for indiscriminate action against one-way violations, wrong-way driving, illegal parking, encroachments, and speeding. Additionally, he urged for clear road markings, reflective sign boards, zebra crossings, proper street lights, and other modern safety arrangements.

Describing Autobhan Road as a critical commercial route where thousands of vehicles, motorcycles, students, employees, traders, and citizens commute daily, Memon warned that failure to implement timely safety measures could lead to further loss of precious lives. He appealed to the chief secretary to issue immediate instructions to concerned departments for a comprehensive traffic management and road safety plan.
