Hanoi Unveils Plan to Boost Nighttime Economy, Targets 5% GRDP Contribution by 2030

Vietnam’s capital Hanoi has announced an ambitious plan to develop its nighttime economy, aiming for the sector to contribute approximately 5 percent of the city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) by 2030. The plan was unveiled on Thursday, as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

Pedestrians were seen enjoying the evening at the Old Quarter in Hanoi on July 23, 2026, a scene that highlights the potential for nighttime economic activities. The city aims to leverage its cultural heritage and tourist attractions to boost after-dark spending.

The initiative is expected to create new business opportunities in entertainment, dining, and retail sectors. While specific details of the plan were not disclosed, the target signals Hanoi’s commitment to economic diversification beyond traditional daytime industries.

This development could serve as a case study for other emerging economies seeking to revitalize urban centers through nighttime economy strategies.
