Haiti’s Environment Minister Warns Climate Change Worsens Political, Security Crises

Haiti’s Minister of Environment, Valéry Fils-Aimé, has warned that climate change is compounding the country’s multiple crises. In an interview with France 24, Fils-Aimé highlighted that Haiti is the most climate-vulnerable nation in the Caribbean, facing extreme heat, drought, hurricanes, and deforestation.

The minister argued that environmental degradation is directly linked to ongoing political instability, security threats, food shortages, and humanitarian needs. He called for urgent action to address climate security, emphasizing that without intervention, the situation will worsen.

Fils-Aimé’s remarks come as Haiti grapples with gang violence, political turmoil, and a severe food crisis. The interview sheds light on how climate change acts as a threat multiplier in an already fragile state.
