Police in Regional Division #4C are investigating a shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of two men on Wednesday night at Vigilance South, East Coast Demerara. The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old Cordel August, a wash bay attendant from Strathspey, and 35-year-old Eon Headley, a self-employed resident of Vigilance South.
According to preliminary police investigations, the two men were among a group of individuals gathered at a shop in the community around 10:00 p.m. when two men dressed in black arrived on a motorcycle. The suspects allegedly opened fire, discharging several rounds in the direction of the gathering before fleeing the scene.
Both August and Headley sustained suspected gunshot wounds and were transported to the Enmore Regional Hospital by members of the community. Unfortunately, they were pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.
Police reports indicate that examinations of the bodies revealed suspected gunshot wounds. The bodies have since been taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where they are awaiting post-mortem examinations.
No arrests have been made at this time, and investigations into the double murder are ongoing. Authorities are appealing to anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
