The World Trade Centre Georgetown (WTCG) is set to host a business luncheon titled “Growing Business with the United States” on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. The event will feature Arun Venkataraman, an internationally recognized trade expert. This luncheon is part of WTCG’s ongoing efforts to enhance trade and investment relations between Guyana and its international partners.
As Guyana works to expand its economic presence and diversify its export base, WTCG aims to provide local businesses with access to insights from a leading authority on U.S. trade and commercial policy. Mr. Venkataraman has over two decades of experience in international trade and economic policy, having served as the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service from 2022 to 2025. In this role, he was responsible for promoting commercial opportunities for American companies abroad and assisting foreign companies looking to invest in the U.S.
During the luncheon, Mr. Venkataraman will share insights on U.S. trade policies, available trade preferences, and mechanisms that facilitate business engagement with the U.S. market. His presentation will focus on how Guyanese companies can leverage these opportunities to boost exports, form strategic partnerships, attract investment, and improve competitiveness.
This event is particularly timely as international trade is influenced by changing geopolitical dynamics and trade policies among major economies. Recent changes in U.S. tariff policies, which have affected several exports from Guyana, highlight the importance of understanding these developments. The shift from duty-free treatment to tariff rates of up to 15 percent presents new challenges for exporters aiming to maintain their market presence in the U.S.
WTCG emphasizes the necessity for businesses to stay informed about U.S. trade policy and to identify strategies that can help them remain competitive while seizing emerging opportunities. The luncheon will provide a platform for participants to engage with Mr. Venkataraman during a question-and-answer segment and through private discussions following the presentation.
This session is expected to be particularly relevant for exporters, manufacturers, service providers, investors, and entrepreneurs looking to expand their commercial reach beyond Guyana. WTCG’s mission is to connect Guyanese businesses to global markets and foster meaningful international engagement.
Members of the business community and other interested parties are encouraged to attend this informative event. For registration and further details, individuals may contact the World Trade Centre Georgetown Secretariat at 592-763-9824 or 592-515-9824, speaking with Ms. Noel or Ms. Peters.
