A 24-year-old construction worker has been arrested after his sibling found him in the house with the body of their deceased mother, according to the Guyana Police Force. The police reported that they visited and processed the scene, where the body was examined and marks of violence were observed.
The deceased has been identified as 55-year-old SurujDai “Sharda” Kahriu, who worked as a supervisor. Authorities are treating the incident as a murder that is believed to have occurred between 4:25 p.m. and 10:40 p.m. on Thursday at her residence located in Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased lived at the location with her two sons. On the day of the incident, one of her sons returned home and discovered her motionless inside the house. Following this discovery, the body was transported to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigators are also planning to review CCTV footage captured in the vicinity to gather more information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
