Guyana: SBB Training Assists Small Business Growth in Guyana

Small business owners in Guyana have reported positive outcomes from training provided by the Small Business Bureau (SBB). Entrepreneurs have indicated that the bureau’s programs have helped them improve their operations, strengthen financial management, and better market their products.

Several business owners shared their experiences with the Department of Public Information (DPI), highlighting the practical skills they gained in areas such as digital marketing, branding, record-keeping, and business management. These skills have enabled them to grow their businesses with increased confidence.

  • Shamain Sanasiah mentioned that the training helped her develop her brand identity, including logo design, and provided access to processing facilities and opportunities to showcase her products.
  • Falana Fraser noted that the sessions on business management and record-keeping transformed her financial management practices, making it easier to maintain proper records and improve her business when seeking support from financial institutions.
  • Waheeda Jaikaran stated that since joining the program in 2021, the SBB has played a crucial role in expanding her business. She emphasized that the digital marketing training allowed her to create promotional materials, manage her advertising, and effectively use social media to reach customers.
  • Cindy Hall, owner of Natural Glow Organic Skincare, praised the initiative, stating that the financial management training helped her track sales, expenses, and profits, providing a clearer understanding of her business performance.

The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, through the Small Business Bureau, continues to support micro and small enterprises by offering training, technical support, and opportunities to access new markets. Additionally, the establishment of the Guyana Development Bank is expected to further enhance financing opportunities for small businesses across the country.
