President Irfaan Ali recently addressed the outcomes of a government outreach in Region Seven, indicating a notable shift in the concerns expressed by local residents. During the outreach, the President observed that many communities are now prioritizing agriculture, production, and economic support over basic needs.
The outreach exercise involved government teams visiting 44 villages, with the aim of understanding the challenges faced by these communities. Ali mentioned that many of the issues raised had been previously documented through earlier visits and requests from the villages. He noted that the outreach resulted in a relatively small number of individual complaints, which he interpreted as a sign that prior government interventions were beginning to yield positive results.
According to Ali, feedback from residents indicated that the primary focus in many villages has shifted towards seeking support for agriculture and production. This development is significant as it suggests that residents are moving beyond requests for basic services and are now looking for assistance to enhance farming, food production, and community-based economic activities.
Ali shared an example of a farmer from Batavia who expanded his operations from one pig to 20 pigs, along with ducks, chickens, and other livestock, illustrating the positive impact of government support on local farming initiatives. The President also highlighted advancements in basic services such as water and electricity, noting that some communities that previously lacked access to water now have wells and overhead storage systems.
Furthermore, Ali announced plans for government investment in equipment to support road and infrastructure maintenance in Bartica and surrounding areas. This investment will include graders, rollers, and excavators, aimed at establishing a robust maintenance program in the region. The initiative will involve collaboration between central government, local authorities, the private sector, and other stakeholders, with the goal of empowering communities and regional authorities to manage maintenance works more effectively.
Ali expressed satisfaction with the progress observed in several communities within Region Seven, emphasizing that the outreach was designed to listen to residents, respond to their needs, and build upon the ongoing development efforts.
