Candidate Master Sachin Pitamber has secured his position at the top of the standings in the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) National Junior Championship Qualifiers. The final round of the tournament took place on Wednesday at Olympic House in Liliendaal. Pitamber, who began the day as the leader, achieved victory in the seventh round against Alek Ubaldo-Singh, solidifying his first-place finish.
With this win, Pitamber has successfully qualified for the upcoming National Junior Championship, along with eight other competitors who also performed well throughout the qualifiers. The tournament showcased a series of intense matches, culminating in a competitive final round that determined the top nine players eligible for the championship.
The GCF continues to promote chess in the country, providing young players with opportunities to develop their skills and compete at higher levels. The National Junior Championship is anticipated to feature some of the best young talent in Guyana, as these qualifiers have highlighted the potential of emerging chess players in the region.
