Guyana: Jury Convicts Two Men in 2020 Murder Case of Henry Cousins

A jury in Berbice has found two men guilty of the 2020 murders of cousins Isaiah and Joel Henry. The case has received significant national attention and has led to widespread protests calling for justice. Anil Sancharra and Vinod Gopaul were convicted on two counts of murder by the High Court on Tuesday.

The jury’s decision followed a thorough examination of the evidence presented during the trial, which lasted several weeks. The brutal killings of the Henry cousins, who were from West Coast Berbice in Region Five, shocked both the local community and the nation at large, prompting public outcry and demands for accountability.

This case has highlighted various issues surrounding violence and safety in the region, as well as the need for justice in similar incidents. The public response to the murders underscored the community’s concerns regarding safety and the judicial process.

Following the verdict, the court is expected to schedule a sentencing hearing for Sancharra and Gopaul. Both men face significant prison time as a result of their convictions. The outcome of this trial marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing pursuit of justice for the victims and their families, as well as for the community affected by these tragic events.
