Guyana: Jewellery Gift from Guyana’s Minister to Former US Ambassador Transferred to US Government

Former United States Ambassador to Guyana, Sarah-Ann Lynch, has officially handed over a gift of jewellery valued at US$1,198 to the U.S. government. The jewellery was presented to Ambassador Lynch by Guyana’s Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, during her tenure in the country. This action aligns with the U.S. government’s policy regarding gifts received by officials, which stipulates that such items must be reported and, if necessary, transferred to the government.

The jewellery, which was received in recognition of the ambassador’s service, is now in the possession of the U.S. government following the formal handover. This transfer underscores the importance of transparency and adherence to ethical guidelines in diplomatic relations. The U.S. government has protocols in place to manage gifts received by its officials, ensuring that they are handled appropriately and in accordance with established regulations.

Ambassador Lynch served in Guyana from 2019 until her departure in 2021, during which time she engaged in various diplomatic initiatives aimed at strengthening U.S.-Guyana relations. The handover of the jewellery marks a conclusion to the matter of the gift received during her service.
