The Office of Professional Responsibility in Guyana is conducting an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred on Thursday morning in Block E Sophia, Georgetown. A 19-year-old labourer sustained injuries during this event.

Initial reports suggest that police officers on mobile patrol received information indicating that the teenager was wanted in connection with an alleged robbery under arms. As the officers approached the individual, a confrontation ensued, resulting in the discharge of a firearm.

The police have stated that the teenager was subsequently transported to a medical facility for treatment of his injuries. The specific circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the actions of both the police and the individual involved, are currently under review as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the condition of the injured teenager or the nature of the alleged robbery. The investigation aims to clarify the events leading up to the shooting and ensure accountability in accordance with established protocols.

The police have urged anyone with additional information related to the incident to come forward as the inquiry progresses. This investigation is part of a broader effort to maintain transparency and uphold public trust in law enforcement practices.
