The Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) announced that the South Dakota Circuit in Timehri will host the 2026 Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) Superbike Championship on July 11 and 12. This event is expected to be the largest motorcycle racing event in the region, featuring over 30 classified factory riders from countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic.
The championship will include elite riders competing for a prize purse exceeding US$30,000 in the Superbike 600cc and 1000cc classes. The event will also coincide with Round Three of the GT Challenge de las Américas GT3 Series, showcasing a full grid of GT3-spec vehicles including Ferraris, McLarens, Lamborghinis, and Porsches.
In athletics, two-time Olympian Emanuel Archibald announced that he will not compete for the remainder of the 2026 season due to a severe heel injury. Archibald, who holds national records in the 100m sprint and long jump, shared his injury update on social media, expressing disappointment to his fans. He made history in 2023 by winning a gold medal in the Men’s 100m at the CAC Games.
In cricket, a group of Guyanese cricketers is set to participate in the 2026 Guyana Cup T20 Tournament in New York and New Jersey. The tournament is supported by the Guyanese diaspora and features a mix of local and international talent. Key players include Suresh Dhani, Kevin Sinclair, Niall Smith, and Brandon Jaikarran.
Additionally, the Diaspora Select Basketball Team arrived in Georgetown to prepare for their match against the Guyana Select Team as part of the 2026 Guyana Independence Homecoming Classic. The Future Sports and Entertainment Group is also organizing a Community Football Tournament with a $150,000 GYD grand prize, aimed at promoting community integration and youth participation.
