Khalil entered the final match after winning four consecutive matches without losing a game. In the championship match, she faced Chile’s top-seeded player, Anita Pinto. Khalil won the first game 11-5, but Pinto came back to win the next three games 11-9, 11-5, and 11-7, resulting in a 1-3 defeat for Khalil. After the match, Khalil expressed disappointment but acknowledged the valuable lessons learned from the experience.
PROVIDENCE, GUYANA — The Guyana Hockey Board concluded the Diamond Jubilee Cup 1st Division Tournament, with the GCC Elite Women and Pepsi Hikers Men emerging as champions. The GCC Elite Women defeated the Hikers Women decisively with a score of 9-1, with Carolyn Deane being named the Women’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). In the men’s final, the Pepsi Hikers secured a 4-2 victory over Old Fort Top Form, with Jamarj Assanah earning the Men’s Tournament MVP honors. Christian Sumeer and Kendra Gordon were recognized as the Most Outstanding Goal-Keepers in their respective divisions.
PROVIDENCE, GUYANA — New Central High School was declared the South Georgetown Zone Champions in the GFF’s 2026 Blue Waters Shipping Under-15 Girls National Secondary School Championship after Lodge Secondary failed to field a compliant squad. Amanda Saunders was recognized as South Georgetown’s Most Outstanding Player. New Central High will compete in the national final round against other regional champions.
ALBION, GUYANA — St. Therese Primary won the Berbice Zone title of the ExxonMobil Guyana-sponsored 2026 Future Warriors Tapeball Tournament, defeating Tain Primary by 13 runs. St. Therese posted a total of 81-6, while Tain managed 68-2. Adriel Chichester from Tain was awarded the Most Runs Award, while Mario Ramsammy from Rose Hall Estate Primary was named the tournament’s MVP and Leading Wicket-Taker.
GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — The Guyana Amazon Warriors have finalized their domestic roster for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL). The team will be captained by Shemaine Campbell and includes players such as Realeanna Grimmond and Shamilia Connell. The roster will be enhanced by the selection of five international players before the tournament begins in September.
