Guyana: Heavy rainfall disrupts some access routes in Region 9

The Government of Guyana is actively monitoring the effects of ongoing heavy rainfall in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo). This weather has led to flooding and significant disruptions to transportation routes in the area. Reports indicate that several communities within the region are facing challenges due to these adverse weather conditions.

In response to the situation, a briefing was held last Saturday with Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips and Local Government and Regional Development Minister Priya Manickchand. During this meeting, officials discussed the current state of the affected areas and the measures being taken to address the flooding and restore access to key routes.

The government is assessing the situation and coordinating with local authorities to provide assistance where needed. Residents are being urged to exercise caution and stay informed about the weather conditions as the rainfall continues. The authorities are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the communities impacted by the heavy rainfall.

Efforts are underway to mitigate the effects of the flooding on transportation and daily life in the region. The government is focused on restoring normalcy and facilitating access to essential services for the affected populations. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops, and residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and prepared for any changes in weather patterns.
