Guyana: Guyana Government Condemns Use of Misleading Map Depicting New River Triangle

The Government of Guyana has issued a condemnation regarding the ongoing use of a map that inaccurately depicts the New River Triangle as part of Suriname. This marks the second instance in two years where the Guyanese authorities have addressed this issue.

The New River Triangle is recognized as part of Guyana’s territory, and the portrayal of it as Surinamese land has raised concerns among local officials and the private sector. Business leaders in Guyana have expressed that such actions undermine the principles of good neighborliness and negatively impact business confidence in the region.

They argue that the misrepresentation of territorial boundaries could lead to misunderstandings and tensions between the two nations. The private sector is calling for a resolution to ensure that both countries can maintain a cooperative relationship.

The Guyanese Government’s response highlights the importance of accurate representations of national borders and the need for mutual respect in diplomatic relations. As the situation develops, officials from both countries may need to engage in dialogue to address these territorial disputes and foster a more stable environment for business and cooperation.

In summary, the ongoing issue of the New River Triangle’s representation on maps continues to be a point of contention, prompting calls for clarity and cooperation between Guyana and Suriname.
