Guyana Government Reassures Public of Stable Fuel Supply Amid Temporary Disruption

The Government of Guyana has moved swiftly to address public concerns following a temporary disruption in fuel supplies. The disruption was attributed to a delay in a shipment by a major oil company, which has since arrived and is currently being discharged, according to Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips.

Further to the arrival of the delayed shipment, the Prime Minister has stated that additional consignments have begun arriving. More deliveries are expected throughout the week, bolstering the nation’s fuel reserves. As a result, authorities are optimistic that the supply situation will stabilise in the coming days.

The Prime Minister has appealed to citizens to remain calm and avoid panic buying. He has emphasised that adequate fuel supplies are entering the system and warned against the improper storage of petroleum products. He stressed that gasoline is highly flammable and can pose serious risks if kept in unsuitable containers.

Several shipments have already arrived or are imminent. The Guyana Oil Company is set to receive 9,000 barrels of diesel and 21,000 barrels of gasoline on April 15. SOL Guyana Inc. and Rubis Guyana Inc. have also reported the arrival and ongoing distribution of significant quantities of gasoline and diesel, with further shipments expected in the coming days.

The Government has assured that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and take all necessary steps to ensure a stable and reliable fuel supply across the country.
