Guyana: Five Arrested, Guns Seized After Home Invasion in Guyana

Five individuals have been arrested and two .32 pistols seized following a home invasion and robbery that occurred early Monday morning in Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, according to police reports released on Wednesday.

Investigators reported that at approximately 3:45 AM on Monday, seven armed individuals forced their way into the residence of a 49-year-old self-employed man. The suspects were reportedly armed with firearms, cutlasses, and knives during the incident.

According to police, the suspects struck the front door, and shortly thereafter, loud explosions, believed to be gunshots, were heard as they forcibly entered the home. The victims, which included the homeowner, his wife, and one of their daughters, were reportedly assaulted during the invasion.

Following the assault, the suspects ransacked the house, taking a quantity of jewelry, two mobile phones, cash, and personal documents, the total value of which has not yet been determined. After the homeowner managed to escape and report the incident to the police, law enforcement officers responded promptly, visited the scene, and escorted the victims to the Enmore Regional Hospital for medical examination.

Further investigations led police to a location in Phase Two, Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, where a search was conducted on Tuesday, June 9. During this search, two .32 pistols were discovered in a blue cookie tin. Initially, a 21-year-old laborer and a 33-year-old taxi driver, both from the Good Hope Squatting Area, were arrested and remain in police custody. Additional investigations resulted in three more suspects being taken into custody.
