Guyana: Duo Wanted for AK-47 Assault Rifle Probe Surrender to Police

Two of the three men wanted by the Guyana Police Force in connection with the discovery of ten AK-47 assault rifles in Berbice have surrendered to authorities. The individuals, identified as 33-year-old businessman Antonio Alonzo “Lanzo” Lawrie and 21-year-old Gregory Anthony Persaud, a wash-bay attendant, turned themselves in at the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters located on Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, accompanied by their attorney.

Lawrie resides at Lot 959 Farm, New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, while Persaud is from Area ‘G’ Ogle, East Coast Demerara. The third individual, Ryan “Satan” Singh, who is from Parika Outfall Seadam, remains at large and has yet to be apprehended.

Prior to their surrender, on May 28, 2026, another man, 33-year-old Stephen Raja from Back Street, Goed Fortuin Village, was arraigned for illegal possession of arms. Following his arraignment, Raja was remanded to prison after his bail was denied. The court has scheduled the next hearing for June 15.

The police operation that led to the discovery of the rifles involved a stop-and-search exercise conducted along the Berbice River Bridge access road during the early hours of the morning, between 1 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. During this operation, a black Toyota Corolla Fielder motor car with registration number HC 9018 was stopped, but the driver fled the scene heading eastward.

Subsequent to this, police acted on received information and conducted a search along No. 11 Village Public Road, where they discovered the ten AK-47 rifles wrapped in plastic and cloth.
