Guyana: Citi Opens Representative Office in Guyana

Citi has announced the opening of a representative office in Georgetown, Guyana, after receiving regulatory approval from the Bank of Guyana. This new office is located in the Regus building on Waterloo Street and is part of Citi’s strategy to enhance its commitment to Guyana’s growing economy.

The establishment of the representative office is intended to facilitate connections between clients and global markets, while also promoting collaboration with both public and private sectors. Ernesto Torres Cantú, Head of International at Citi, emphasized the importance of having a local presence, stating that it allows for a better understanding of local business dynamics, culture, and regulations. This understanding is crucial for providing tailored solutions to clients interested in investing in Guyana and supporting Guyanese clients looking to expand internationally.

The decision to open this office is influenced by Guyana’s robust economic growth, particularly in sectors such as infrastructure and export financing. Citi aims to leverage its expertise to contribute to the country’s economic development. Julio Figueroa, Head of Citi in Latin America, noted that after nearly three decades of maintaining a relationship with Guyana without a physical presence, this new office is strategically positioned to improve the delivery of products and services in the country.

Furthermore, the office is expected to strengthen partnerships with government agencies, financial institutions, and the private sector, reinforcing Citi’s commitment to supporting the nation’s economic growth and development in the Latin American region. Citi operates in over 180 countries and jurisdictions, offering a wide range of financial products and services to various clients, including corporations, governments, and individuals.
