Guyana Allocates Over $3 Billion to Support Rice Farmers

The government of Guyana has announced a significant financial support package, allocating over $3 billion to assist rice farmers. This initiative comes in response to the rising costs of materials influenced by global conflicts, including the ongoing war in Iran. Farmers with less than 50 acres of cultivation will receive $15,000 per acre, while those with over 50 acres will receive $10,000 per acre. President Irfaan Ali, who consulted with farmers during discussions, emphasized the need for immediate action to help them cope with these economic challenges. ‘Our goal is to ensure that our farmers can continue to thrive amid global economic pressures,’ he stated. The support is part of a broader strategy by the Guyanese government to bolster various sectors impacted by rising costs.
