**TEHRAN** — Iran has strongly condemned recent Israeli military strikes in southern Lebanon that left 11 people dead, including three children and two women from the same family.
According to reports from Tasnim News, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei decried the operations as “brutal attacks” violating Lebanon’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. He stated that the strikes hit areas including Al-Ansar, Ali Al-Taher heights, Nabatieh al-Faouqa, and Deir al-Zahrani, destroying residential and civilian premises and injuring several others.
Baghaei also criticized the United Nations Security Council for its “silence and inaction” regarding what he termed gross violations of international and humanitarian law, calling it “deplorable.” He commended the resilience of the Lebanese people and reaffirmed Iran’s solidarity with Lebanon.
The strikes occurred on Saturday following an announcement by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) that three Israeli soldiers had been wounded in earlier attacks by Hezbollah. Al Jazeera reported that the early-morning Israeli operations targeted the Nabatieh district, killing seven people in Ansar—including three children—and four people in Deir ez-Zahrani, with 19 others injured across the locations.
Following the bombardment, Israel acknowledged that civilians were among the casualties. According to The Times of Israel, the military accused Hezbollah of deliberately placing civilians within a military compound, and identified the women and children killed as family members of a targeted senior Hezbollah commander.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Hezbollah of violating the ongoing ceasefire by attacking Israeli troops. U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee supported the assessment, stating that Hezbollah had severely wounded Israeli soldiers.
The escalation drew criticism from Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, who stated that the strikes sent a clear message ahead of upcoming U.S.-sponsored negotiations between Lebanon and Israel. The IDF maintains that its operations are designed to target Hezbollah infrastructure and prevent further attacks against Israeli forces.
