The music world is in mourning following the sudden passing of Grammy-nominated producer Tay Keith, real name Brytavious Chambers. The 29-year-old was found dead in his Nashville apartment, with authorities stating no foul play is suspected. An official cause of death remains pending the completion of an autopsy.
Born and raised in Memphis, Tay Keith’s influence on modern hip-hop is undeniable. His signature production style is credited with shaping some of the genre’s biggest records, including Travis Scott’s ‘Sicko Mode’ and Drake’s ‘Nonstop’. His work on ‘Sicko Mode’ earned him a Grammy nomination in 2019, with a second nomination following in 2024 for ‘Rich Flex’.
Throughout his short but impactful career, Keith collaborated with a slew of music heavyweights, including Beyoncé, Eminem, and Lil Baby. He notably helped propel Sexyy Red to mainstream success. His contributions have not gone unnoticed, featuring on Forbes’ prestigious 30 Under 30 Music list and earning him widespread respect for bringing Memphis’ unique sound to the global stage.
The news of his death has resulted in an outpouring of tributes from across the music industry. Longtime friend and collaborator BlocBoy JB shared an emotional message, revealing that the pair were in almost daily contact. Other artists and colleagues have likewise expressed shock and sadness at the loss.
