Government Defends Position on CARICOM Secretary General Reappointment Process

Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Sean Sobers has defended the government’s position regarding the reappointment of CARICOM Secretary General Dr. Carla Barnett, stating that Trinidad and Tobago’s concerns relate strictly to procedural issues. He argued that the matter was not listed on the official agenda for the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting and was discussed at a retreat where Trinidad and Tobago was not represented. The minister emphasized that the country is seeking clarity and adherence to the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.
