Gonsalves Calls for Massy Stores to Enhance Quality in St. Vincent

Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has urged Massy Stores to re-evaluate its operations in the region, particularly regarding the supermarket’s aesthetics and product selection. During a statement on July 11, Gonsalves criticized the local Massy supermarket, claiming it to be the worst among its Caribbean counterparts. He referenced the higher standards of stores in Barbados and St. Lucia, questioning why St. Vincent could not meet similar quality standards.

Following his comments, Gonsalves revealed that he spoke with a former high-ranking Massy official, who informed him that the company would look into the concerns raised. This official mentioned that he contacted the Chief Executive in Trinidad, who promised to send someone to assess the situation in St. Vincent.

Gonsalves emphasized the importance of addressing such quality issues and called for an expansion of the product range in local stores to match those of competitors. He pointed out that it is crucial to establish a basic standard of quality that meets or exceeds what is available in neighboring countries. The Prime Minister’s remarks highlight an urgent call for improvement in local retail standards in St. Vincent.
