Gen Muhoozi avuze “abo akeka” bishe Sergeant Robert

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and senior presidential advisor, has publicly addressed the death of Robert Kabera, a former Rwandan soldier known as Sergeant Robert, who was killed in Uganda in October 2024. This marks the first time a high-ranking Ugandan official has commented on the case. Kabera was reportedly murdered and decapitated by unknown assailants, and his head remains missing. Ugandan police have confirmed the killing and stated that investigations are ongoing. In a statement, General Kainerugaba noted that his office had not been initially briefed on the incident. He alleged that members of the Rwanda National Congress (RNC), an opposition group led by Kayumba Nyamwasa, may have been involved in the killing. “I strongly suspect some of the people from Kayumba’s RNC are behind this. They could be retaliating for the arrest of Kandiho? We will get to the truth,” Kainerugaba stated, adding that Uganda is committed to ensuring accountability for crimes committed within its borders. The investigation has focused on a motorcycle taxi operator identified as Innocent, who had been transporting Kabera for several months. Reports indicate that Innocent was with Kabera on the day of the murder, having driven him from Kampala to Kamengo in the Mpigi District, where Kabera was constructing a house and where his body was subsequently discovered. Innocent has since disappeared and remains at large. Robert Kabera had fled Rwanda in November 2020 while facing military court charges related to the alleged sexual abuse of his child. Following his departure, he frequently used social media to criticize the Rwandan government. Ugandan authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
