Former Bond actress Alison Papworth has expressed her opinion that the next actor to portray James Bond should be a man. Papworth, who appeared in the films For Your Eyes Only in 1981 and Octopussy in 1983, told Fox News Digital that she believes the character should remain male, stating that it would feel strange if the role were cast differently.

The search for the next 007 has been ongoing since Amazon MGM Studios gained creative control of the franchise in 2025 through a partnership with longtime producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. In May, the studio confirmed that the search for the next lead actor had commenced. The upcoming film, which will be the 26th in the series, is set to be directed by Denis Villeneuve with a screenplay by Steven Knight. Daniel Craig was the last actor to play the role, concluding his tenure in the 2021 film No Time to Die.

While various names have been linked to the role in media reports, including Paul Mescal, Jacob Elordi, and Jack O’Connell, no official casting announcement has been made.

Reflecting on her time in the franchise, Papworth shared memories of working with Roger Moore, whom she described as a gentleman with a humorous personality. She also discussed how her experience as a Bond actress influenced her life, noting that it led to lasting friendships with fellow actresses Vanya Seager and Carole Ashby.

Following her acting career, Papworth transitioned into interior design. She currently serves as a director at Camhall Design and Consultancy, a firm based in the United Kingdom. In addition to her professional work, she has been involved in charitable efforts, including fundraising for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices alongside Joan Collins.
