Sudbury Wolves’ Shady Daher Lands Team Canada Opportunity and New Role in QMJHL

Shady Daher, a 28-year-old analytics specialist and video coach for the Sudbury Wolves, has been presented with a unique opportunity to work with Team Canada as a video coach for the national women’s development team selection camp. The camp is being held in Richmond, British Columbia, this week.

Daher, a Montreal native, received an email from Hockey Canada offering him the position shortly after the 2026 OHL Priority Selection and the Wolves’ development camp commenced in June. He will be responsible for one of the two squads alongside Team Canada video coach Carlee Campbell.

“It’s an honour to represent Canada, even if it’s only as the invited video coach for the camp,” Daher said. “It’s going to be a learning experience for me, getting to know new people and learning a new software, as well, which we don’t use in the OHL quite yet.”

This will be Daher’s first time working with a national team program on either the women’s or men’s side. He had sent in his first applications last December, and he believes that any experience at this level is beneficial. “Any experience is good at that level and getting your foot in the door with international hockey is always a good thing,” he added.

The national women’s development team selection camp will be held alongside the women’s U18 selection camp, bringing together 80 players in total. Among the U18 invitees is Sudbury product Whitney Basso, a defender for the Whitby Wolves in the Ontario Women’s Hockey League Under-22 loop.

Daher credits the Sudbury Wolves for helping him secure his new opportunities. “From the day I started with the Wolves, I got to do a lot and it was about learning a new thing every day,” he said. “I tried to give a hand whenever they needed it, wherever they needed it. In the sports industry, you need to be the kind of person who is willing to take on those tasks and earn their trust and build yourself a reputation.”

In addition to his work with Team Canada, Daher has also been hired by the Victoriaville Tigres of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League as an assistant director of hockey operations and team services, as well as a video coach. He will be relocating to Victoriaville, which is approximately two hours from his hometown, and is eager to take on new challenges and expand his knowledge of the game.

The Sudbury Wolves have yet to announce a replacement for Daher, who will be departing the team. The Wolves are set to open their training camp on August 25.
