From Music Dreams to Ministry: Curtis Keene Shares Why He Left the Industry Over Personal Convictions

Curtis Keene has opened up about why he walked away from what he describes as a promising music career, choosing to abandon his dreams of becoming a major R&B star rather than compromise his personal beliefs and identity.

Speaking candidly in a recent video, Keene reflected on his journey through the music industry, recalling how his regional hit ‘Swagwalk’ helped him secure management and opportunities that eventually placed him alongside established artists. He performed across the southern United States and toured with rapper Big Boi of OutKast.

Keene alleged that, as part of his artist development, his age and hometown were altered for promotional purposes to make him more marketable to record labels. He relocated several times while pursuing a major recording contract, spending years recording music and performing.

The turning point came during a meeting with record executives, where he claims he was encouraged to publicly present himself as bisexual as part of a marketing strategy. Keene stressed that the proposal conflicted with his personal convictions and that he repeatedly rejected the idea.

‘I’d be better off being at home and figuring it out for myself than losing me for what is no longer a dream,’ Keene recalled telling the executives. His refusal ultimately ended his pursuit of a major label deal.

Today, Keene serves as a preacher and content creator, saying the confidence and communication skills he developed during his music career now help him minister to audiences. He believes God redirected his path toward a purpose greater than fame and is grateful for where life has ultimately led him.
