Frank Wildhorn has been appointed honorary chair of the charity RepresentAsian ahead of its annual gala, which will take place on Monday, 9 November at the Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue in London. Wildhorn, the composer of the West End productions Death Note and Your Lie in April, is a multiple‑nominated Tony, Grammy and Emmy winner. His appointment is intended to strengthen the organisation’s mission to promote Asian representation, diversity and inclusion in the performing arts and to create more opportunities for emerging Asian artists. RepresentAsian, founded in 2021 by casting director Ben Armstrong, raises money for fully‑funded training bursaries for young Asian students at The Boury Academy. The 2‑hour‑10‑minute gala, which will be moderated by Nina Wadia, will feature a range of West End stars and rising performers, including Hiba Elchikhe, Zheng Xi Yong, Mia Kobayashi, Nadim Naaman, Soophia Foroughi, Roshani Abbey, Sameer Dhanjee, Shivaane Subash, Charlie Moscrop and James Hameed. Kobayashi and Zheng Xi Yong will perform a special rendition of a song from Your Lie in April. Wildhorn said: “I have had a wonderful experience working on Your Lie in April and Death Note. I am very proud of the responses we receive from so many families and children who see themselves on stage for the first time – a place where dreams can become reality.” The gala will also highlight Wildhorn’s recent work in the West End, where both Death Note and Your Lie in April were performed entirely by Asian casts. Death Note will return to the Barbican Theatre from 23 March to 15 May 2027, following a sold‑out summer run. RepresentAsian’s fundraising event aims to support the next generation of Asian talent by providing training bursaries that enable artists to pursue their careers regardless of background.
