The United National Congress (UNC) announced today the passing of Dr. Daphne Phillips, a former government minister, senator, and revered academic, at 82. Known for her unwavering commitment to public service, she left a lasting impact on communities, women’s rights, and family strengthening. During the Basdeo Panday administration (1995-2001), she served in various ministerial roles and occasionally acted as Prime Minister. Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar lauded Dr. Phillips as a stalwart of the UNC, singling out her lasting contributions to national development. In 2024, she received a Long-Service Award for her dedication to both the party and the nation.
