The Department of Irrigation in Sri Lanka has issued a flood warning, stating that minor flooding may occur in several areas over the next 48 hours. This warning is due to the heavy rainfall currently being experienced in the upper and middle catchment areas of the Kelani River Basin. The warning was issued on January 1 at 7:30 a.m. by the Hydrology and Disaster Management division of the department. According to the warning, residents in the affected areas should be prepared for potential flooding.
