Flávio Bolsonaro, the ultraconservative senator, is leading in the second‑round vote count for Brazil’s presidential election in São Paulo. According to official results from 25 % of the ballots counted, Bolsonaro has 50.51 % of the votes, while incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has 49.49 %. The candidate who receives more than 50 % of valid votes will assume the presidency on 5 January for a four‑year term. The counting process began amid confusion after a Supreme Court judge, at Lula’s request, extended the voting period by two hours, even though the first ballots had already started to be tallied.
