Brent Thomas, a firearms dealer, has demanded an independent investigation into his removal from Barbados in 2022 by officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) as well as Barbados police. Thomas expressed concerns about political and institutional issues that are yet to be addressed. In an interview with CCN journalist Mark Bassant, Thomas recalled the events that led to his arrest and return to Trinidad and Tobago, referring to the incident as a ‘kidnapping’. He also hinted at potential political interference in the matter and raised questions about the legality of several warrants used in his case. Thomas affirmed that some members of the TTPS and possibly the former government may need to be held accountable. He called for transparency and accountability for his ordeal, which he claims ruined his life and business. Despite his ordeal, Thomas maintains that the country’s security institutions should be trusted.
