A tragic incident unfolded early on August 15, 2025, in Santa Cruz, where a woman and her nephew lost their lives during a robbery attempt. The victims were identified as 29-year-old Suevie Ghany, an employee at the San Juan Laventille Regional Corporation, and her nephew Aaron, whose last name remains undisclosed.
The events transpired around 5 a.m. when Ghany stopped to fetch spring water along La Pastora Road near Bienvenue Avenue. At that moment, a Nissan Cube approached, and two men, one armed, confronted them and demanded the keys to their vehicle.
Following the handover of the keys, a licensed gun owner, who was in the vicinity, intervened by drawing his firearm and firing at the suspects. In the chaos, Ghany was struck in the head and died instantly, while her nephew was critically injured and later succumbed to his wounds at Mt. Hope Hospital.
Aaron was known to frequent the Santa Cruz Police Station with Ghany to fulfill bail requirements, as he was a police supervisee. Authorities recovered a firearm at the scene, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
