Shem Wayne Alexander, a 35-year-old Trinidad and Tobago national, has confessed to his involvement in a firearm smuggling conspiracy in the United States. Arrested in Jamaica in November 2024, Alexander was later extradited to the U.S. on December 20th, 2024. The charges stem from activities between April 2019 and April 2022, when Alexander and several others exported firearms, parts, and ammunition from Florida to Trinidad and Tobago. The smuggling operation was uncovered in April 2021, when police in Trinidad and Tobago discovered a shipment at Piarco International Airport containing weapons and ammunition hidden inside punching bags. The arrest and extradition of Alexander were the result of efforts by multiple international agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case forms part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force program, which works to dismantle serious transnational criminal organizations.
