Ex-Minister Questions New Water Monitoring Efforts

Ex-Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales raises questions on the legal authority of the Ministry of Public Utilities over the operations of WASA via a new hotline to monitor water trucking. This comes after the announcement from current Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath of plans to scrutinise irregularities in water scheduling. Gonzales criticises this move as an indication of Padarath’s lack of confidence in WASA’s management. He also voiced concerns over the Government’s approach to water management in South Trinidad. Gonzales chose not to comment on a 2024 probe into water trucking irregularities or whether any charges were made. He further mentioned water stabilisation programmes and infrastructure initiatives under the previous administration, aimed at addressing water shortages.
