A 25-year-old man, known as Dwight Yorke, has been apprehended for allegedly assaulting and robbing the daughter of Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander. The incident occurred on Christmas Eve 2024, in Port-of-Spain, where the Minister’s daughter was travelling by taxi. Yorke, having just been released from prison, reportedly targeted her to snatch a gold chain from around her neck. During the confrontation, he struck her in the face, causing a swollen jaw. Remarkably, the victim managed to hold onto her chain, despite the violent attack.
The suspect, known as a ‘snatcher’, fled the scene immediately after the incident. On realizing the gravity of his actions—his victim was the daughter of a senior police officer—he went into hiding. At the time, Roger Alexander, was serving as a senior superintendent of police but later resigned to enter politics.
Yorke was eventually arrested and incarcerated on an unrelated matter before being detained again this week. Authorities have confirmed that he remains in custody and is expected to be formally charged for the 2024 incident later this week.
