Culebra – Mayor Edilberto Romero Llovet met with representatives from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Department of Housing, and the technical team overseeing the island’s affordable‑housing project. The meeting focused on reviewing the project’s progress and the steps required to move it forward. The project, which has a budget of $25 million, covers environmental studies, permit applications, construction costs, and the development of essential service infrastructure. During the discussion, the parties identified contractors capable of operating on the island, advanced administrative procedures, and examined alternative uses for the allocated funds. Romero Llovet said he will continue to engage local agencies and federal authorities in Washington to ensure the project proceeds and that the municipality receives the resources it has been allocated.
