Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has called on representatives of supermarket chains and suppliers to adjust product prices to reflect the current strengthening of the Albanian lek against the euro. During a meeting focused on the Price Watch Albania platform, the Prime Minister emphasized that the shift in currency value should be passed on to consumers, particularly regarding essential food items.
Rama stated that the government does not intend to interfere with business profit margins. However, he noted that there are limits to the current pricing structures and urged businesses to demonstrate responsibility in light of the favorable exchange rate conditions.
The government’s appeal is part of an ongoing effort to monitor market trends and ensure that fluctuations in the currency market are appropriately reflected in the cost of living for citizens. The Prime Minister reiterated that while the administration respects the autonomy of private enterprises, it expects a reflection of the economic reality in the retail sector.
