Estreia histórica do FC Canchungo termina com derrota frente ao campeão senegalês

**FC Canchungo Makes Historic Debut in CAF Champions League, Falls 1‑0 to Senegal’s Teungueth FC**

*Bissau, 5 September 2026* – FC Canchungo, the current national champions of Guinea‑Bissau, played the first match of its history in the CAF Champions League on Saturday, 5 September 2026. The club was defeated 1‑0 by Teungueth FC, the reigning champions of Senegal, in the preliminary round’s first leg.

The game was held at the Estádio 24 de Setembro in Bissau, the only stadium in the country that meets the Confederation of African Football (CAF) requirements for international competitions. Attendance was limited, with a small number of supporters in the stands.

The match was evenly contested in the first half, with both teams creating chances but ending the period at 0‑0. In the second half, Teungueth FC gained a slight advantage in possession, but FC Canchungo’s defense held firm. The only goal of the match came in the 88th minute when FC Canchungo’s central defender Kennedy inadvertently scored an own goal after a defensive play in the penalty area.

FC Canchungo, founded in 1948, entered the CAF Champions League for the first time in its history. Despite the loss, the team’s coach, João Dembi, praised the players’ performance and stated that the club would continue to compete for qualification in the second leg, scheduled to be played in Senegal.

The preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League is a two‑legged tie. The first legs take place between 4 and 6 September, while the second legs are scheduled for 11 to 13 September. In addition to FC Canchungo, the other Guinean representative in CAF competitions this season is União Desportiva Internacional de Bissau (UDIB), which will play its first‑leg match against Nigeria’s El‑Kanemi Warriors FC on Sunday.
