Rwanda and Belgium have moved to restore diplomatic relations following a period of tension regarding the ongoing conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The two nations are now prioritizing dialogue to address their differences.
The diplomatic rift began on March 17, 2025, when the Rwandan government severed ties with Belgium. Kigali had accused Brussels of favoring the position of Kinshasa concerning the security situation in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
