Energy’s climate change challenge

Australia is well-positioned to address climate change due to its diverse energy supply options, according to an energy expert. Tony Wood, a senior fellow at the Grattan Institute, addressed the South East Melbourne Manufacturers Alliance (SEMMA) annual general meeting on September 3, suggesting that the nation’s primary challenge lies in selecting the most effective path forward from an abundance of choices.

During his presentation, Wood noted that while Australia previously relied on inexpensive coal-fired power, the transition toward alternative energy sources is now a central focus of the national agenda. He emphasized that the country possesses the necessary resources to navigate this shift, provided that strategic decisions are made regarding which energy technologies to prioritize.
