In a dramatic internal showdown today, Central Division officers were removed from an investigation into a suspected arms shipment at an El Socorro warehouse. The officers had intercepted intelligence about a barrel filled with firearms and ammunition stored at the facility. They received approval to conduct a search under the Emergency Powers Regulations, which permit searches related to arms without a warrant. However, upon reaching the warehouse, they were denied access to the barrel. A customs supervisor reportedly made a phone call, and soon after, senior officers from the special branch arrived. These officials disarmed the Central Division team, seized their service-issued firearms and ammunition, and ordered them to the Commissioner of Police’s office. They were subsequently escorted to the Police Administration Building in Port of Spain.
