Police in northern Germany opened fire on a vehicle after it drove into a crowd, according to a statement from the local police spokesperson cited by MTI. Four or five people were injured, some seriously, and were taken to hospital; none were in life‑threatening condition. The incident occurred late on Monday night in Neustadt am Rübenberge, a town in the north‑western part of Hanover in Lower Saxony. The vehicle fled the scene and police were unable to apprehend the suspects. Early investigations suggest that the participants knew each other. The spokesperson said that police were conducting a routine traffic check when they noticed the incident just before midnight. Officers fired at the vehicle in an attempt to stop it. A number of police officers and a helicopter were involved in the operation.
