Eloise Gonsalves, has broken her silence following intense public scrutiny

This report covers eloise gonsalves, has broken with key details and context.

The wife of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, Eloise Gonsalves, has broken her silence following intense public scrutiny over her family’s acquisition of multiple units at the Victoria Keyes Housing Development in Trinidad and Tobago. The controversy, which has been amplified by opposition voices in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), has become the latest flashpoint in an already heated political climate ahead of the upcoming general election.

Background to the Allegations

The dispute began when Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister in the Ministry of Housing, Anil Roberts, questioned how the Gonsalves family came to possess three Victoria Keyes units — a premium HDC development in Diego Martin.
Roberts suggested the family may have benefited from preferential treatment, highlighting claims of a rent-to-own arrangement on one of the units and raising concerns about whether the properties were acquired at true market value.

These comments fueled strong reactions in SVG, where the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) has echoed the allegations as part of its ongoing criticism of the Gonsalves administration.

Eloise Gonsalves: “We Bought at Market Rate”

In a detailed statement, Eloise Gonsalves said the claims circulating about her family are “lies, malice, and deliberate political attacks.”

She clarified that she was born in Trinidad with family roots in Dominica, and that the decision to invest in Trinidadian property came after her then 90-year-old mother lost her home in Hurricane Maria.
Two of her brothers and several grandchildren reside in Trinidad, she noted, making the country a natural place for the family to regroup after the disaster.

According to Gonsalves, the units were purchased at full market value, through the standard legal and financial process available to any Trinidadian citizen. She emphasized that there was no favouritism, political pull, or special arrangement.

PM Ralph Gonsalves Also Denies Wrongdoing

Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves has also addressed the controversy, calling the accusations “political bile” and “spurious.”
He said his wife and children are Trinidadian citizens or citizens by descent, and therefore fully eligible to purchase property in the country.

He insisted that no member of his family interfered with HDC operations, and described the allegations as a targeted attempt to tarnish his family amid rising election tensions.

A Second Layer: The Modern Hospital Contract

Eloise Gonsalves further warned that political rivals intend to “expose” a contract awarded to an engineer working on SVG’s modern hospital project.
She said the engineer is highly qualified and was hired through proper channels — and that attempts to scandalize the project are politically motivated.

She accused opponents of seeking to undermine the hospital development, a flagship project of the current government.

Political Climate Intensifies

The controversy has erupted at a sensitive moment in SVG’s political cycle.
Eloise Gonsalves claimed that the NDP is “willing to demonize families, smear reputations, and jeopardize national projects” in pursuit of power.

She warned Vincentians to consider the implications of such behaviour, asking:
“If they are willing to destroy my family with lies, what would they be willing to do to yours?”

Still No Evidence of Wrongdoing

As of now:

There is no official investigation in Trinidad publicly reported against the Gonsalves family.

The HDC has not issued any statement confirming wrongdoing.

The available documentation suggests Victoria Keyes is not subsidised housing, but a development with units sold at market rate.

The allegations appear to stem mainly from public commentary and political discourse, rather than established findings.

What Happens Next

The story continues to gain traction both in Trinidad and in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where political temperatures are rising quickly.
With the SVG general election approaching, analysts say this controversy will likely remain in the spotlight — not for its proven facts, but for its political implications.

TG News will continue to follow updates from both governments, the HDC, and any new documents or statements that emerge.
